There is a new trend that Google,Facebook,Icloud and Facebook are now using and it is called 2 factor authentication. This is basically an extra layer of security required to log in to your Gmail.

I described the steps in the photos in this post, but to explain it in a few words, you associate the account with a cell phone and they will send you a code which you enter in Google. You can authorize certain computers so they don’t ask you for the code every time you are login in from that computer. If you are using another computer that is not authorized, it will send you a text message on your cell phone and you can authorize that computer and add it to the list.

I would also suggest you create an alternative e-mail address in case you need to recover your password and you have lost your cell phone. Do not use the same password for that e-mail address, as a matter of fact you should not be using the same password of any website. You may want to use a program like lastpass that will generate secured passwords and remember them for you.

Online Security, can be secured if the user makes an effort to be vigilant. Remember Security and convenience are 2 opposite words, the more convenient the easier it will be to hack into your account. Find a right balance, and have a piece of mind.

Your Computer is now unusable and you can not get out of this screen. Unfortunately the methods recommended on this web site did not work for me.

Before trying my method, you may want to try the easier one first. You can search this web site, which is also really good, for your kind of virus and they will describe a method to remove it.

If those methods failed, try mine, it worked for me. You have to be a bit patient and follow each step very carefully otherwise you may screw up your computer.

1- Download this file and make a bootable cd or usb.

2- Boot the infected computer with the Anvisoft boot cd and do a full scan, repair the errors and fix the registry. Reboot

3- If that did not fix your computer, we’ll skip to the next step.

4- Run the same boot cd and you will copy the ntuser.dat to a usb stick.

4a- The ntuser.dat for your current user is found in the user/default ( name of your user account ).

4b- right click on the ntuser.dat and paste it to your usb stick. ( click on filesystem,media and open your usb stick and paste the file to it )

5- Go to another computer and download this registry editor.

6- Connect your usb key to the 2nd computer.

7- paste the ntuser.dat to your desktop.

8- rename the ntuser.dat on your usb key to ntuser.dat.bak ( to create a backup just in case )

9- open regmagik and select file/load hive and point to the ntuser.dat file on your desktop.

10- navigate to the following hive. ntuser.dat\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

11- I deleted everything under that hive. These are the programs running automatically when windows starts.

12- Close the program and save the file back to your usb key.

12a- Go at the same place described in step # 4a and delete the ntuser.dat file and paste the one you just edited.

12- Double click on FIle system/windows/sda1/windows//temp and delete everything in that folder.

13- Reboot and you should be able to access your computer.

14- Run MRT from the command line

15- Update your Anti virus and run a full check.

16- Download Malwarebyte and run it.

What is a dns? It stands for domain name server. It is basically the internet phone book. When you are typing www.google.ca the browser goes to the DNS server from your internet provider and looks up the address for google which is 208.69.36.231

Why is opendns good for you? This server is faster, so your web pages will load faster. The good feature is that you can set filters on a computer in your network or for the entire network.

You can set the filters at different level which will allow you to block porn sites, video sharing, social networking etc… The filter is very effective and it will report to you if someone on your network tries to access a blocked website.

Guide:

1- go to opendns and create a free account.

2-once your account is created, you must add your network to the opendns server. To do that, go in your opendns settings and add your network.

3- if you have a dynamic ip, you must install opendns updater to send the new ip to the dns server. you can download it here

4-now you have to set up your network. If you want to apply the dns server only on a specific computer, you must do the following.

a- go to control pannel / network connections

right click on the adapter wi-fi / local network

select properties/internet protocol tcp/ip/ and click properties.

add the following address as shown above and click ok.

to see if your dns has changed, go to start menu/run

and type cmd. A dos screen will pop up . Type ipconfig /all
