1- Go to your Ubuntu software center and search for Compiz and install the the Compizconfig settings Manager.

2-Go to the terminal and download the extra plugin

sudo apt-get install compiz-fusion-plugins-extra

*** Here’s a little tip, is you play around with the settings, I guarantee you you will see all your icon disappear and you will freak out. Don’t panic….. Press Control,ALT and T which will launch the terminal. Type the following command:

Badware websites

On the Iphone the app is called Find my Iphone and it is free. On Android there are a few but i like wheres my Droid. Those apps are easier then ever to track down your missing phone.

The apps can turn the ringer volume up and make your phone ring. The app can also get the GPS coordinates with a link to Google maps if you’re not near enough to your phone to hear the ringer. You have the freedom to track your phone from anywhere, either with a text messaged attention word or with our online Commander.

Both apps have the option to remotely delete your data in case you really have lost it and you don’t want anyone to access your data. You can pre set the keywords for the different functionality and it will become active when you send a text message to your phone. ( ie send a text message Locate my Droid to your phone from another phone and it make your phone ring. ) you can also send a text message to turn on the GPS and it will send the coordinates to the cell phone who sent the text message.

What is really nice with the Android is that you can log on to Google play and install the app remotely.

In my opinion when it’s time to decide what’s best for you there are 2 options Apple T.V and Boxee Box.

I am not going to debate which one is best but it’s the Boxee :->. The Apple TV is very nice and simple but it lacks a lot of functionality that I am going to explain when describing all the Features of The Boxee Box.

Functionality

The software is very well designed, you add the location where your music and movies are stored on your network and it will scan them and download the cover art.

- when browsing your movies it will also give you a description of the movies from IMDB.

- The movie will resume to the last place you stopped.

- you can install subtitles from a click of a button.

- A check mark will appear on the cover art after you’ve watched the movie.

You can flash your boxee with previous firmwares if you don’t like the functionality of the actual one. The one thing i don’t like is that boxee will automatically update you to the newest. Here’s a way to circumvent it:

The tablets are a new form of multimedia devices where the market is “owned ” by Apple, for the time being. It is very easy to stream video from your home computer to your Ipad using a wi-fi connection and using air video. I tried for the longest time to stream movies from my home computer to my Android Tablet ( herotab m10) without success. I visited a lot of forums where people said they had success but it did not work for me. I will list the different methods just in case it would work for you.

6- Emit Free ( you run the windows server app and download the app on your phone. )

I finally found a solution that works for me. A friend of mine has a Android Samsung tablet and it worked on his tablet as well.

1- Download the Myview home server ( it’s a Korean website but you will be able to navigate through the website )

2- Set the folders you want to share in Myview home server.

3- Download the free Android app called Myview

4- You can now connect to your home server and stream all kind of movies.

Evaluation:

This program is being updated constantly and the programmer is actively releasing updates every month or so. There are still some bugs to be worked out but I spent many hours trying to stream movies and there are no other solutions working as well as Myview.

I noticed the following bugs : larger files will not have sound ( I tried a 1 Gb Avi file and it worked and a 2 Gb file did not. )

The 3g sensor does not work in this app.

There is no setting to set the compression of the files.

One feature I really like is the conversion feature, You can mark a movie file to be converted for better streaming results and it will convert the file on your computer.

I also had some issues connecting to the Myview Home server after I exited the movie and went back to the root.

I also noticed that the movie is not choppy if you are pointing to a folder directly on your computer. I had my movies on my nas ( network attached storage ) and the movie was choppy and I could see green pixelazation.

For a free program, we can not complaint much, even with the few bugs it is a must for streaming Video and it’s getting Herouxapps seal of approval.

1- Download a picture you want for your usb drive.

2- go toa web site to have your jpg converted to a .ico like this ONE and click on upload button to upload your jpg

3- Select the size and click generate it. ( I suggest 16×16 )

4- Download THIS ( right click and save as )file and copy it on your usb drive with the icon you’ve just downloaded.

5- rename your icon to icon

6- don’t put them in a folder or it’s not going to work. Leave them in the root of your usb drive.

7- unplug and re plug your usb drive and Voila!

I installed it and it will take some time getting use to it, it gave me the option to keep all data that was saved on my computer and you don’t need an installation cd. All the menu have changed and it it is pretty touch if you want to go quickly to the control panel or what used to be in the start menu.

Every MAC address have 6 bytes and the 3 first bytes are reserved for the vendor and you can find from a list what vendor is manufacturing a certain network card.

How to find the MAC address

To find the MAC address in Windows

• Go to the DOS prompt
  • Click on Start button, select Run
  • Type cmd and press ENTER
• In the DOS prompt, type ipconfig /all and press ENTER
  You should see the MAC address in this format 00:00:00:00:00:00

To find the MAC address in Unix/Linux

• Go to a terminal (you should know how!)
• In the terminal, type ifconfig and press ENTER
