DVR stand for digital video recorder. There are a lot of them everywhere you go ( groceries stores, convenience store, banks, shops etc. )
If you are tasked to retrieve the video from one of these device, this can be a very painful experience. Some have an export to Avi option but some don’t. What you need to do in those occasions is to copy or extract the proprietary file. ( each system are different and so is the file format ) Let say that you extract the file and the extension is a .EDR, well good luck trying to find a player to read this format. A lot of times, the program will be a proprietary player made by the DVR company and is available on their web sites or upon requesting to the tech support. Most of these players are not commercial products are are designed to specifically work with a dedicated recorder.
